I've been doing software development since the mid 90's; but mostly targeting the Windows desktop

In the past couple of years, I've begun working on my web development skills, so I picked up this book to try to go back and pick up some of the things I may have missed along the way

A few months ago I realised my two businesses need websites

If you're just getting your feet wet in Web site construction, the first big hurdle is figuring out where to start

Building a Web Site for Dummies lightens things up with humor and makes the challenge of building a site far less daunting

This book doesn't zoom you right into coding HTML, although it covers the markup language quite well

I agree with most reviews for DHTML Utopia; the book is middle level, leaving beginners in the dust but pros wanting more

I bought this book online and didn't realize how utterly unreadable the examples are

I literally have been using a strong magnifying glass to read the code examples (hard to do and type, too)

Developers don't get to spend a lot of time thinking about design, but many secretly wish they knew how to make their applications look just a little bit better

Could of been much better
I new this book was not for beginners as I have done some html programming before

However I think this book is total waste if you never done any html programming before

The content sometimes can be confusing and just today I realised there was a bug in one of the examples

Web standards are the standard technology specifications enforced by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to make sure that web designers and browser manufacturers are using the same technology syntax

It is important that these implementations are the same throughout the Web, otherwise it becomes a messy proprietary place, and lacks consistency

These standards also allow content to be more compatible with multiple different viewing devices, such as screen readers for people with vision impairments, cell phones, PDFs, etc

This book delivers a proactive approach to building an effective Web site that is search engine friendly and will result in better search rankings

It outlines the steps needed to bridge the gap between a Google search and a Web site, and also improve the users' experience once they get to the site
