CCNP BSCI Exam Certification Guide is a comprehensive self-study tool for the CCNP/CCDP(r)/CCIP(tm) Building Scalable Cisco(r) Internetworks (BSCI) #640-901 exam, which evaluates your ability to build scalable, routed Cisco internetworks. This book, updated with over 100 pages of IS-IS protocol coverage, addresses all the major topics on the most recent BSCI #640-901 exam. Master the concepts and technologies upon which you will be tested with this guide, including extending IP addresses, routing principles, scalable routing protocols, managing traffic and access, and optimizing scalable internetworks.

Each chapter of the CCNP BSCI Exam Certification Guide focuses your study on and tests your knowledge of the subjects through specially designed assessment and study features. `Do I Know This Already?` quizzes assess your knowledge and help you decide how much time you need to spend on each section within a chapter. The well-organized Foundation Topics sections detail all the exam topics you need to master. Each chapter includes a Foundation Summary that highlights essential concepts for quick reference and study. Challenging chapter-ending review questions and exercises test your knowledge of the subject matter, reinforce key concepts, and provide you with the opportunity to apply what you've learned in the chapter. In addition, a final chapter of scenarios pulls together concepts from all the chapters to ensure you can apply your knowledge in a real-world environment. Finally, the companion CD-ROM's robust testing engine includes powerful features that enable you to take practice exams that mimic the real testing environment, focus on particular topic areas, randomize answers for reusability, track your progress, and refer to the electronic text for review.

CCNP BSCI Exam Certification Guide is part of a recommended learning path from Cisco Systems(r) that can include simulation and hands-on training from authorized Cisco Learning Partners and self-study products from Cisco Press.

Okay to use but not as your only book
This book does cover the material however, it is organized somewhat funny, a little difficult to follow and the IPv6 section is very weak. If you are new to these subjects this book is not for you. It is easier if you have years of hands on experience or have read other books first. I used it as a complement with the Doyle and new Cisco Press CCIE book plus my own lab to pass the BSCI in a couple of weeks. The CD test engine is too easy. One tip to pass the BCSI, practice, practice, practice.

This book is dated though(2003)compared to BCMSN switching exam which released a new book in early 06 that is excellent.

I used Clair's first book back in 2k and it was great but this one is so so. HTH,,.

it doesnt cover everthing,,
I did read this book entire, my practice tests score were average of 98 to 100%, but I did not pass the exam.

I noted that some questions of the exam are not covered in this book, such as some concepts of IPV6, RIP and so on. So I think it is a complementary book. Dont try to pass the exam using ONLY this book just like I did.

I will try the exam again in this month, but I will refer to other guides too, such as sybex, just like I did in CCNA preparation.

Required reading
Studying this book finally enabled me to pass the BSCI. Make no mistake though; this is not a great book. It is poorly organized, it is full of errors (even ones not stated in the errata - I can rattle off quite a few) and basically hard to understand.

If you are new to the subject, this is not the book you want to read - go buy the Sybex book. If you have read and understand the Sybex book, and want to pass the exam, read this book. I can not tell you what is on the exam (or Cisco will sue me) but I CAN tell you from experience that there is information on the exam concerning material that is covered in this book and NOT in the Sybex book!!

As for those who claim the Sybex book has a better grasp on the concepts, I disagree. Claire Gogh's writing on BGP is hard to wade through, but it is rather obvious that she understands BGP better than the author of the Sybex book.

Good book! - bad news with the enclosed Software
The book offers a very good overview about the exam relevant knowledge except multicast where the exam questions were not covered by the books content. A negative expierience was that the original SW which is part of the book was already registered with Boson and that I could not install it till I could reach Boson in US via telephone and explain the thing resulting in a manual unlock procedure. (Bad if you try to test on a weekend)

Good example how to make simple things complicated
This book is a good example how to make simple things complicated. It seems author don't have any pedagogical knowledge. Book also contains some serious logical errors.
