Stuffed with example situations and code and pointers. *** I might have added a chapter on Oracle Text. Management systems rely on text pools, related to processes and external interfaces. Its not all numbers, these days. *** Otherwise, this gets an A. *** I've used this book again and again. $$$$$ on the table consulting. User review Good book if you want to know what is Data Warehouse I joined this company to work for the Data Warehouse group. I have worked with Oracle Databases for about 12 Years but I'm new to data warehouse. I was finding myself out of the place for various data warehouse concepts. I tried reading Oracle Documentation. Although it was helpful but I wanted to have something that could give me good information about basic data warehousing concepts. Therefore I skimmed through various books at a book store most of the books talk about the advanced stuff assuming that you're familiar with basic concepts of Data Warehousing. Finally I looked at this book and was happy with the simplicity of presentation of the various data warehousing concepts. Therefore I ordered it through Amazon. So far I have liked this book it tells you the very basics of the Oracle Data Warehousing. It does not have many real life or project examples but it does cover the basic concepts that comes handy when you're trying to build or maintain a data warehouse. I do not recommend this book as only source of information for Data Warehousing but for the beginners like me who want to lay a foundation for their knowledge before getting into more serious stuff this is a good start. I would recommend reading this book to gain an understanding of the concepts and use Oracle documentation for your projects. User review oracle datawarehousing In our IT dept.We are developing a data warehouse project.I think instead of buying this book read oracle database 10g release 1(10.1) part no:B10736-01 Almost the concepts are the same .Lots of information but not a real project example:I mean the book consists of lots of queries but has no a real example. User review Excellent overview of Oracle 10g Data Warehousing Lilian Hobbs and company provide a good overview of the data warehousing capabilities of Oracle 10g. In particular, I like the use of EM to manage all aspects of defining the schema and managing the dimensional model including creating an OLAP cube. Ond of the reviewers mentioned that there is no downloadable source. That is not correct. It is available from www.lilianhobbs.com as mentioned in the book. User review Very good overall coverage This book is very useful if you want to get overall coverage of data warehousing related features in Oracle 10g. The book does not covers any topic in details but does covers all areas (SQL, Utilities, OWB, Discoverer, ODM) related to the DW/BI space. Other books on Oracle |
