TOAD Handbook is a guide for developing Oracle applications and administering Oracle databases with TOAD. Starting with installation and configuration, the book covers the TOAD SQL editors in depth, including dozens of helpful, undocumented features. Later chapters discuss reporting and exporting data and using several add-on tools designed to enhance TOAD development. Along the way, the authors provide critical insights into the workings of TOAD and how developers can use it to make the most of their applications. Includes a foreword by Jim McDaniel, the inventor of TOAD.

Everything developers need to use TOAD in both administrative and development tasks
A key choice is the second updated edition of Bert Scalzo and Dan Hotka's TOAD HANDBOOK, a survey of the latest version of TOAD, a third-party Oracle utility. Step-by-step recipes, screen snapshots, and basic exercises provide everything developers need to use TOAD in both administrative and development tasks. An excellent pick for any software developer's library.

A bit disappointing
I was expecting more from this book like some shortcuts but the book was just an overview.

Already Out of Date
This review is of the 2nd Edition, published September 2009. The version of TOAD it's written for (9.7) is a year old and the new version (10) comes out next week. I realize you have to have a product before documentation, but I thought with the book coming out now as the same time as the new version it would be written to include some TOAD 10 information. Release a book with the new version of the software, isn't that how it's usually done? The beta is public so we've known what is coming for a while but no such luck here.

Don't get me wrong, the book is still useful, but not near as much as it would be if written for the version of TOAD we'll all be using by the end of October.

An update to this book is long overdue
I should have paid more attention to the reviews by recent reviewers prior to purchasing this book. If you're using any Toad version after 7.x, you're not going get much out of this book.

And, overall, I found the book to be poorly organized and hard to follow.

User review
out-of-date
The book doesn't cover the current version of the product. If it is the only source of help for TOAD, then it doesn't help as the product is not at all like the book's version.
