User review An Excellent How-To and Reference for Ubuntu Linux Beginning Ubuntu Linux was a Godsend for me when I installed Ubuntu, as I had no `live` expert at hand to answer my questions. For someone with no prior knowledge of Linux, the book's step-by-step guidance makes it easy to install the software and get it up and running. It does a nice job of anticipating any problems the user may encounter and provides solutions for them. Once the system is installed, it provides complete coverage of configuring it for the individual user, and actually putting it to work, in chapters on using the Open Office suite, the Totem movie viewer, the GIMP photo program, e-mail programs and other features. For those inclined to dig deeper the book has in-depth coverage of file structure and manipulation, the BASH shell, and practically every topic to increase one's expertise with Linux. I find the book to be an excellent reference whenever a question arises when I'm using Ubuntu, and learn something new each time I open it. I highly recommend this book and wouldn't be without it. User review Excellent for linux beginners This is an excellent book for beginners of Linux/Ubuntu. Has detailed instructions on installation and usage and system maintainence. I wish the DVD were a little more up to date though. However, that is no big deal as almost all things Linux can be downloaded from the internet. User review Great The book was supposed to be `used`, but it honestly looked brand new, even with an unopened CD. Shipping was fast, and it was just an overall great deal. User review Beginning Ununtu Linux I have been an enthusiastic Unbuntu user for almost a year and a half now and find that Beginning Ubuntu Linux to be the most comprehensive and informative book that I have read so far even though I am only read a third of it so far. I feel that book is a must for anyone using Ubuntu who wishes to get the most out it. Ubuntu is a superior and easier system than any Windows system and Beginning Ubuntu Linux makes even easier. There is an adjustment coming form Windows or Mac and this book smooths it out considerably. Read it and enjoy the best system available today. User review Great beginners guide I purchased this book to get a better understanding of how Linux, and especially Ubuntu, works - I got exactly that. This book offers a broad basic introduction and a fairly in-depth insight into not just Ubuntu, but also to Linux as a hole. It describes the differences between Linux and windows, and gives some insight into why Linux does things a little different. If you a looking for a beginners guide into Ubuntu, this will do the trick! Jesper Denmark Other books on Ubuntu |
