Touching on the history of the Internet, and the technologies it spawned, it explains the theory and possibilities for the same technologies to support inter-device communications within a studio environment. Network Technology For Digital Audio will provide on tap knowledge for students and lecturers on audio-related and music technology courses and will prepare the working professionals within the industry for progress and changes to come. Network Technology for Digital Audio is part of the Focal Press Music Technology Series. Understand the transfer of real-time audio digital data Covers the latest specifications and standard agreements aimed at audio applications Written by an experienced practising audio engineer and IT expert User review The only book in its category If you look for something that converges network technology and digital audio generically, that's the only book that I know of that covers both subjects. Though it has some typos and errors, like a figure that's not shown totally, its content is still excellent! If you are an audio guy trying to understand networks basics, that's for you. It's networks oriented, more than digital audio. It discusses how to implement a network to transmit digital audio over it. If you are a newbie to networks, you can begin to understand how they work. I think you do not need a previous knowledge in networks to understand the book, though it could help. If you are a newbie to digital audio though, it doesn't cover the basics of it that deeply. Refer to some other book like `The Art of Digital Audio` by John Watkinson. It still covers some standards like CobraNet, Soundweb, but be aware that there are others standards around not covered in this book. If you want to get deeper into CobraNet protocol, look for Ballou's `Handbook for Sound Engineers`, in Ch 39, by Ray Rayburn. User review Excellent! The author has enough knowledge to describe all concepts, from the basics to the more recent technologies available and in development. The text is very well written and easy to understand.
